Curtis
was born in Toronto, Canada, of Caribbean
parents (Trinidad & Tobago). He spent
his middle and high school years in Tooting,
SW London. He also spent four years as a
Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister
of Community and Social Services, while
competing in athletics.
Curtis
completed his degree in Bio-Physics at
the University of Toronto before moving
to California to further his studies.
He received his Masters of Public Health
(MPH) in 2000.
After graduating,
Curtis worked for the California Department
of Health Services, Genetics Disease Branch.
He was trained as a medic with the Berkeley
Free Clinic. Curtis remains active in
the track and field community.
Having
competed in the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney,
Australia, he took home 13 medals, five
gold, which, according to some accounts,
was the highest at the track and, possibly,
the highest total at the Games.
